The electronics industry is a funny world sometimes.

For many product sectors, the newest models come out at a set time of year. Most 2010 cars, for example, will start arriving toward the end of summer. Sure, some are out now, but most will show up before the leaves turn.

Things like running shoes, which are generally seasonal, are released before that season starts.

In the electronics world, Panasonic is known as the home of plasma. Originally the playground of a number of companies, plasma has narrowed to just a select few. Vizio, Pioneer and a host of others have all abandoned ship.

If you’re looking for a TV at the right time of year, there are bargains-a-plenty to be had. Because of the unpredictable nature of electronics releases, sometimes deals can be had year-round, if you know what you’re looking for.

The Panasonic Viera TH-58PZ800U is a 58-inch plasma-screen high-definition television. It’s technically a 2008 model — released in the fall to capitalize on holiday sales. Its replacement, the TC-P58V10, will be released in August with an upgraded screen and internals.

26 Inch LCD TVs: Smaller Screen Size Doesn’t Mean Small Picture

While many consumers are moving toward larger televisions, there’s still a home for smaller screens. Often used as a second television — or third, or fourth — smaller screens are inexpensive and capable.

For most companies, screen sizes below 32 inches are usually 26, 22 or 19. Some companies make all three. The 26-inch screen is probably the best option, because it’s wide enough to take advantage of high-definition signals, as well as being versatile enough to serve as the main television in a smaller house.
