Buy A Samsung TV
Samsung’s wide range offers many choices
As far as giant electronics companies go, Samsung is as big as they come.
Headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, Samsung is the world’s largest consumer electronics company and offers products from washers and driers to electrical circuitry.
The company is the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, as well. But it’s Samsung televisions that are drawing the most attention.
Whether it’s a Samsung LCD, plasma or the new cutting edge LED screen, there’s a good chance a Samsung television will cost less and offer more than a competing model.
At the top of the company’s range is the LED-fired Series 8. Featuring LED lighting around the edges of the screen, the Series 8 Samsung LED TVs offer the most connectivity features.
Through the internet, content can be streamed directly to the television — movies, television shows, and news widgets. At some point in late 2009, Samsung will enable direct Netflix streaming to all of its internet-enabled televisions.
Additionally, the LED-powered models — priced from nearly $4,000 to $1,499.99 — save on energy costs. Samsung touts a 40 percent lower energy requirement compared to a traditional LCD television.
In the plasma-screen game, Samsung offers a 42-inch model, the PN42B750, for as low as $529.99. On the high end, the same connectivity and picture quality features found in the Series 8 LED models can be found in the corresponding plasma line.
The benefit of plasma, however, is its near-universal appeal to HD enthusiasts. Citing superior screen refresh rates (often upward of 600 times per second) and deep, brilliant colors, plasma is often used as the centerpiece of home theater systems.
And with the connectivity and price advantages of Samsung — a 58-inch model can be found for less than $3,000 — it’s easier than ever to build the system of your dreams.
For those who don’t have high-end aspirations, Samsung offers plenty in the entry-level category. Full 1080p-resolution televisions are plentiful in the sub-$1,000 range, and 720p high-definition models can be found for several hundred less.
The Series 3 32-inch Samsung LN32B460 LCD features 720p resolution, a gaming mode and Samsung’s Wide Color Enhancer software, all for $469.99.
If you’re looking for a deal, go to places like Amazon.com and shop around. Often, soon-to-be discontinued models will sell for hundreds less than the MSRP. On larger, high-end sets the discount can top $1,000.
But even without deep discounts, a Samsung television is a good choice. The company’s innovative approach to television — including its Touch of Color design features — is a welcome change from a world of black rectangles.
