Samsung LN52A850 — At The Head Of The Class
For some consumers, a high-end television is anything over $1,000; that’s simply where the budget reaches its high-water mark. For others, it might be $2,000. Still others think $3,000.
But no matter the budget, it’s easy to agree that $3,299.99 is definitely high-end. That’s where the Samsung LN52A850 is priced. It’s a 52-inch LCD flat-panel HDTV that takes advantage of every bit of Samsung’s industry-leading technology.
(If you’re thinking high-end, but hoping to aim a little lower, the LN52A850 can be found at places like Amazon.com for up to $900 off retail price.)
At 1080p resolution, it includes 120Hz image processing, which results in a smooth, blur-free picture no matter how fast the on-screen action gets. Samsung uses its Ultra-Clear Panel design to enhance colors and contrast — essentially making the screen brighter.
Three HDMI ports are included to take advantage of all of the necessary peripheral devices — Blu-ray, gaming system and cable or satellite. A pair of component video inputs are also on board.
The LN52A850 is part of Samsung’s flagship Series 8 line and features internet connectivity. The InfoLink feature can display RSS feeds, weather, stocks and local news reports right on the screen.
A feature called DLNA allows the television to serve as a central monitor for content stored on networked PCs around your home. High-definition movies downloaded from iTunes could then be streamed to and viewed on the television.
The LN52A850 also includes a built-in content library. Stored in the television’s on-board memory are recipes, exercise regimens, educational games for children and even a photo gallery. Content can be manually loaded, as well, meaning your favorite photos can be instantly turned on as a slideshow.
Samsung’s Touch of Color bezel design is included on the LN52A850, meaning the outer edges of the frame have a hint of amber color.
Finally, the LN52A850 is part of the new generation of ultra-thin televisions. At just 1.9 inches deep, it’s actually thinner than its remote control. In addition to being a space saver, it’s also an energy saver — it qualifies for the Energy Star certification.
Ultimately, individual budgets will determine what high-end is. But in the meantime, Samsung defines it with a large high-definition screen, plenty of connectivity and internet capabilities — all in a razor-thin package.
